Research Clearing
Research can sometimes feel distant from ordinary life.
It can be full of specialist language, measurement tools, diagnostic categories and carefully controlled ideas that do not always capture what it feels like to live inside a body, a family, a workplace, a culture, a nervous system, a relationship or a history.
That does not make research irrelevant.
Good research can give language to things people have felt for years but never been able to name. It can challenge harmful assumptions, reveal patterns, explore tensions, and make invisible effort more visible. It can help explain why certain environments, relationships or expectations become costly for some people and not others.
But research also needs to be held carefully.
The aim of this clearing is not to make research impressive.
It is to make it useful.
Useful enough to help someone recognise their own experience with more accuracy.
Grounded enough to avoid turning lived experience into vague metaphor.
Open enough to keep changing.
The research shared here aims to stay close to lived experience, exploring ideas without losing sight of the people those ideas are trying to understand.
This clearing is still growing.
Over time, this space will gradually gather research-informed pieces, plain-language summaries, diagrams and writing connected to neurodivergence, masking, burnout, trauma, hidden thresholds, self-trust and ecological understandings of distress.
Some of my current work explores how neurodivergent distress may emerge through the interaction between inner experience, relationships, environments and wider systems. I am holding parts of this work carefully while I consider what may become formal publication, what may become plain-language summaries, and what may be most useful as reflective pieces or practical Field Guides.
Some work needs time to winter, compost and take shape underground before it is ready to emerge.
The Research Clearing will begin to open gradually from spring 2027.
