Welcome to Divergent Therapy

Therapy and resources for people who have had to live against their own rhythms.

Divergent Therapy is a reflective therapy practice and resource portal for people recovering from burnout, navigating neurodivergence, living with trauma, moving through loss, or trying to understand themselves after years of adaptation.

It is grounded in ecological and seasonal thinking. This means understanding distress not as personal failure, but as a meaningful response to the conditions a person has had to survive: relationships, systems, environments, expectations, roles, histories and repeated patterns.

Who this space is for

You may be exhausted from holding everything together, managing other people’s expectations, performing competence, using substances to cope or connect, or adapting to environments that do not leave much room for your actual needs.

You may be diagnosed, self-identifying, questioning, neuro-curious, or simply interested in how you operate and why certain ways of living have stopped fitting.

You may be grieving a person, a relationship, a version of yourself, a future you imagined, or time lost to survival.

You may also be living with the effects of trauma, whether from a single overwhelming event, ongoing experiences of harm or instability, or the less visible wounds of being repeatedly misunderstood, misattuned to, or required to adapt yourself in order to belong.

The work here has roots in neurodivergent experience, research and lived understanding, but it is not only for people who identify as neurodivergent.

Many people learn to hide, soften, exaggerate, perform or suppress parts of themselves in order to stay safe, belong, succeed or avoid harm. Masking can involve neurodivergence, intelligence, sensitivity, grief, sexuality, gender, cultural identity, racialised experience, class, need, anger, exhaustion or difference.

A different way of understanding distress

Divergent Therapy begins from the understanding that people do not exist in isolation.

We are shaped by families, bodies, nervous systems, cultures, workplaces, histories, environments, expectations and repeated patterns.

Sometimes distress is a sign that something inside us has been carrying too much for too long.

Sometimes it is a sign that we have been living in conditions that no longer fit, or perhaps never did.

The work is about slowly noticing what has been overridden, what has been adapted around, what has been silenced, and what may now be ready to surface, be heard, and be trusted again.

A living forest

This site is not intended to be a finished thing.

Divergent Therapy is beginning as a small clearing: a place for reflection, research, resources and therapeutic exploration around burnout, neurodivergence, trauma, loss, masking and the slow return to natural rhythm.

Over time, I hope it will grow into something more like a living forest — changing with the seasons, shaped by learning, research, therapeutic practice, writing, and the questions people bring with them.

You are welcome to wander here without needing to become a client.

Read what is useful, leave what is not, and return if the path feels worth following.

Pathways through the site

Some ideas appear here in more than one form.
A theme may begin as a living essay, return later as a research summary, appear as a diagram, or be developed further through Substack or formal publication. These are not duplicates, but different ways of exploring the same landscape: experiential, reflective, visual, practical and research-informed.
